"And Just Like That..." star Cynthia Nixon spoke about how the show's cast all love being on set – and what a difference it makes not to have to "walk... on eggshells" around an "unhappy" castmate, People Magazine reported.

Nixon – who also stars in the Julian Fellowes series "The Gilded Age" – told Vanity Fair about the experience of having returned to the "Sex and the City" franchise with the sequel series, which is about to premiere its sophomore season on Max. (Story is behind a paywall.)

"It did feel very different" to the way things were on the "Sex and the City" set, Nixon mused. "It felt very different also because we have these new amazing characters, and we're older and our fictional children are now largely grown."

Added Nixon: "But the main thing that felt so great was that everybody who was there really wanted to be there. That's just the bottom line."

Nixon's character, Miranda, went through a controversial arc in the first season of "AJLT..." when she fell in love with another woman and left her husband, Steve, who is a popular character in his own right. Fans also called out the show for several awkward scenes in which Miranda had insensitive interactions with a new recurring character who is Black.

But the experience of working on the show, Nixon said, has been a positive one.

"We all love each other, we love our show, we wanted to do more of it. And we all wanted to be there," the 57-year-old actor said, before adding that it "makes an enormous difference, that you're not walking around on eggshells with someone who's unhappy for reasons that are hard to even understand what they are."

That swipe seemed to be aimed at Cattrall, who refused to rejoin the cast for the new series.

Cattrall finally gave "SATC" fans what they wanted, agreeing to a cameo appearance that's slated for the new show's Season 2 finale. Reports said that Cattrall made it a condition of her appearance that she would not see her former cast mates or series show runner Michael Patrick King.

"The 'How I Met Your Father' star bowed out of the franchise after the second film, 'Sex and the City 2,' resulting in Cattrall and [Sarah Jessica] Parker having a real-life falling out," The Hollywood Reporter recalled.

"After the news broke that Samantha would not be returning for the sequel series, the two actresses had different stories about what happened. Cattrall said she had no interest in revisiting the role of Samantha, while Parker said she and And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King chose not to approach her about returning."

Asked about her own personal relationship with Cattrall, Nixon answered Vanity Fair with, "That is all I'm gonna say, I'm afraid. And that's much more than I've ever said to anybody."
