Emmy-winning "Pose" star Billy Porter and his husband, Adam Smith, have reached the "amicable and mutual" decision to split up after having been married for six years.

People Magazine broke the news, citing a statement from Porter's rep, Simon Halls.

"I can confirm that Billy Porter and his husband Adam Smith have made the sad decision to end their marriage after six years," Halls informed the publication.

"The decision was an amicable and mutual one and was made after much consideration," Halls added. "They continue to love and support each other as they embark on this next chapter."

"It's unclear if either party has filed legal docs for separation or divorce," TMZ noted.

"The 'American Horror Story' star met his husband, creative director of swimwear company The Smith Society, at a dinner party in 2009. They dated for a year before parting ways," Digital Spy recalled.

"Five years later, Smith and Porter rekindled their relationship, getting back together on Smith's birthday in 2015," Digital Spy said.

Smith proposed to Porter in late 2016. Just over two weeks later, in early 2017, the pair wed. "Adam claimed Billy wanted to make it official while President Obama was still in office," TMZ related.

People Mag recalled that in an earlier interview Porter had spoken to the magazine about the power of marriage equality and the way not having that right had imposed limitations on what he expected for his life.

"We both grew up in households where who we are is labeled an 'abomination,'" Porter told People Mag in 2017. "The thought of marriage, there was no context for it – there was no dreaming about it because there was no context to dream; it was unspoken and very clear that the sanctity of marriage was not for us."

Porter went on to add: "I lived with this idea that it just wasn't for us. So when we went to get our marriage license the other day, the act of that was so powerful in a way that crept up on the both of us, and it just grounded that moment."

The "Kinky Boots" Broadway star also spoke of how the Supreme Court ruling in 2015 that cleared the way for committed same-sex couples in all 50 states to wed brought a sea of change, saying, "to see that tide turned, it still takes my breath away; I'm still trying to find the words to describe it."

In his statement, Porter's rep, Halls, advised, "There will be no further comment from either parties and it would be appreciated if their privacy be respected."
