Brotherly Love? Is Ariana Grande Dating Frankie's Doppelganger?
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Ariana Grande has been getting some less-than-positive press of late after it was revealed she is dating her "Wicked" co-star Ethan Slater behind the back of his soon-to-be-ex wife Lilly Jay, with whom he shares a newborn son. Now some on social media are taking it step further by pointing out the resemblance between Slater and Grande's brother, Frankie, reports the Daily Mail. "Fans have noted that Ethan, 31, could easily pass as the twin of Ariana's older sibling, Frankie, 40."
"Wicked" is a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz" that achieved great success as a novel by Gregory Maguire. The story tells Baum's story from the witch Elphaba's point of view. (In "Oz," she is the Wicked Witch of the West.) For the musical, Winnie Holzman did the adaptation and Stephen Schwartz the score. It opened on Broadway in 2003, where it continues with capacity business. In the roles, made famous on the stage by Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, are Grande as Glinda and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. Joining them are Jonathan Bailey playing the party boy Fiyero, who first hooks up with Glinda, then Elphaba. Slater plays Boq, the munchkin who dates Elphaba's wheelchair-bound sister Nessa. The cast also features recent Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh as Madam Morrible, the headmistress of Shiz University and ally of the Wizard, played by Jeff Goldbum.
For the screen, "Wicked" has been expanded to two parts, the first to be released on November 27, 2024, and the second on December 25, 2025.
But recently, it has been Grande who has been receiving a heavy dose of tabloid attention after TMZ dropped that she was seeing Slater, who is married and has a young child. At the time, Grande was already rumored to be on the outs with her soon-to-be-ex-spouse, real-estate agent Dalton Gomez.
It wasn't long after their romance went public that some on social media saw the resemblance between Frankie Grande, Ariana's gay older brother, who has an active show business career of his own.
On Instragram, digital creator Katie McBroom was the first to point out the resemblance, with the comment: "I'm no Freud, but like... this seems interesting."
And she received conformation – of sorts – from a real descendent of the Austrian neurologist – Charlotte Freud, who is the great-great-granddaughter (as well as Rupert Murdoch's granddaughter).
Using her IG handle thisistiarlie, she wrote:
"As a Freud I can concur this is weird as f**k."
