New Britney Spears Album in the Works Even as Her Divorce Proceeds, Sources Claim

Britney Spears' divorce from Sam Asghari isn't the only news about the "Hold Me Closer" singer. Sources say she's planning a new album, Page Six reported.

"She has an upcoming writers camp and is getting songs from some big artists," the tabloid quoted one unnamed person "close to" Spears.

Another source tied plans for new music to Spears' upcoming memoir, "The Woman in Me," which is slated for release in October. That source – also unnamed – claimed, "Ideally, she would love to do a record and maybe a song for the book release."

Extra also reported that Spears is gearing up to make new music, saying that the "...Baby One More Time" singer is "working on putting together a deal with Sony for what could be an epic comeback album."

The claims follow earlier rumblings of new music on the way from Spears, whose last album was 2016's "Glory." Since then, the recording artist has won release from a conservatorship and collaborated on two singles with high-profile artists: "Hold Me Closer " with Sir Elton John and "Mind Your Business" with Will.i.am.

Page Six ran a story in May that said Spears "had begun to talk about 'recording again and has gotten plenty of offers, some of which she's turned down' – including a collaboration with Beyoncé."

The tabloid noted that "The news that the 'Toxic' singer is officially laying the groundwork for a new album... comes just one day after her husband filed for divorce."

The 41-year-old pop star married Sam Asghari, who is her third husband, following the end of her conservatorship in late 2021. The couple tied the knot in June of last year.

Spears "cited her desire to marry Asghari as among the reasons she wanted an end to the constraining conservatorship, which she said was preventing it," the Associated Press reported.

"The two announced their engagement in September of 2021 as it became clear she would be freed from the conservatorship – which was ended that November," the AP story noted. "Spears said she and Asghari lost a baby early in her pregnancy in May 2022, about a month before they married."

Now Asghari has filed for divorce claiming "irreconcilable differences," reports have said. The divorce filing also "lists the couple's separation date as July 28, though reports of the split did not emerge until Wednesday" August 16, the AP said. The filing further "says he will try to get financial support from her, while blocking her from getting any from him. And it seeks to have her pay for his divorce lawyers."

Page Six reported that "The divorce has already taken a nasty turn, with the personal trainer-turned-actor reportedly accusing Spears of cheating on him and telling friends that she violently attacked him while he was sleeping," and cited a source saying that Asghari is seeking money from Spears "beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid."

But the AP report suggested otherwise, noting that, according to Asghari's attorney, "No negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her."
