The idea of a pop diva duo taking to the stage has been floated in the form of Madonna and Britney Spears performing together again – and it's the Material Girl herself who's supposedly looking to make it happen, according to UK newspaper the Daily Mail.

"The 65-year-old pop music legend is hoping to get the 41-year-old Spears to join her on stage during her upcoming Celebration Tour," the Mail said, citing Page Six.

"While Madonna is working to reschedule several dates of the tour – after she was rushed to intensive care earlier this summer – she's eyeing Spears to join her for one of five Los Angeles dates happening in March 2024," the site went on to add.

"Madonna originally wanted Britney to join her on tour this year," the Mail quoted an unnamed source saying.

"Everything was pushed back because of her illness, but she still wants Britney to join her at the Kia Forum," the source added.

Madonna, now on the road to recovery, has said she is "lucky to be alive" after suffering a "serious bacterial infection" that landed her in the ICU for several days in June.

"The music legends have shared the stage in the past, including an iconic performance almost exactly 20 years earlier at the 2003 Video Music Awards," the Mail recalled. That performance featured a legendary moment when "Spears and Madonna joined forces with another pop songstress, Christina Aguilera on stage, with the performance ending with Madonna kissing both Spears and Aguilera."

The Mail noted that the global superstars "have been friends for years, with Madonna and Spears performing a duet of 'Vogue' at her July 2022 wedding to Sam [Asghari]."

Now that Asghari has reportedly filed for divorce, a reunion with the Queen of Pop could serve as a tidy bookend as Spears moves on.

Spears is reportedly working on new music of her own with a new album said to be in the works and a fresh new single – a collaboration with will.i.am titled "Mind Your Business" – having recently been released.

Spears also has a new tell-all memoir, "The Woman in Me," set to hit the shelves on Oct. 24.
