Watch: Kim Cattrall Says 'AJLT' Cameo was 'As Far as I Go' with Samantha

After sitting out the first season of "And Just Like That..." and almost all of Season 2, Kim Cattrall reprised her role as Samantha Jones in a quick cameo. But, the actor says, fans should expect that to be her last hurrah as the beloved character.

"As teased in the episode trailer – and originally leaked at the end of May – Samantha emerges in a short scene that sees her talking to Carrie on the phone," Yahoo! Entertainment recapped.

The Cut, which brought a stopwatch to the proceedings, noted that Cattrall's cameo lasted for just 74 seconds – not bad for having been paid "a 'shitload of money' for one afternoon's work, which she says she capped off with a martini," the article cheered. "Knowing your worth? Sophisticated mixed drinks? Sounds like Samantha to me."

The Cut went on to detail that "Cattrall quite literally phoned it in," explaining that Samantha phones Carrie from the back of a car as she's being driven through London, "and does her best impression of utter dismay. She was supposed to fly to New York for one night only to surprise Carrie at her last-night-in-my-old-apartment party, Samantha explains, but because of a three-hour delay, she shan't be making it. Bugger!"

"She bids adieu to Carrie's 'fucking fabulous, fabulous flat' on speakerphone before signing off as Annabelle Bronstein, the Sussex lady she once impersonated to get into the Soho House rooftop pool, with a breezy 'Ta, cheerio!'"

In a sweet farewell to the franchise – of which she was a part for six seasons on "Sex and the City," as well as two movies – Cattrall ad-libbed a kiss to her phone after chatting with Carrie and going on speaker to say goodby to Carrie's apartment.

Fans were thrilled to see Samantha back in person and not reduced to a text message on Carrie's phone.

And just like that... Cattrall is done. At least, that's what the 66-year-old actress told host Hoda and Jenna of "Today" in a June 30 chat about the show and her cameo, Page Six reported.

"It felt like dipping my toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon," Cattrall said of filming the scene. But, she added, "That's as far as I'm gonna go."

Still, Cattrall said, "I don't think I'll ever say goodbye to Samantha."

"She's like a lot of other characters that I've done over the years," the actor went on to add. "I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I'm so appreciative of her."

Yahoo! Entertainment quoted "AJLT" showrunner Michael Patrick King as voicing similar sentiments in an appearance on The Writers Room podcast.

"In my multiverse of 'And Just Like That...' and 'Sex and the City,'" King said, Samantha and her besties "are always... texting and talking."

With or without Samantha Jones, "AJLT" is set to continue, with a third season having been announced earlier this week. While the show has more than enough characters, between its "SATC" originals and a host of new ones, it isn't like Cattrall doesn't also have plenty going on. Cattrall recently starred as the CEO of a major makeup firm in the Netflix comedy "Glamorous," and while no second season has been announced for that series yet, it's doubtful Cattrall will be idle for long.

"Glamorous" and "Sex and the City" share more than Cattrall; the shows also have costume designer Pat Field in common. Field did not sign up for "And Just Like That..." when the sequel series went into production, but Cattrall told Today that she wrangled the services of the costumer for her scene in the Season 2 finale of "AJLT."

"It's very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, what can we do? and I went, 'Hmm. Let me get creative,'" Cattrall reminisced. "And one of those things was to get Pat Field back, because I just thought that if I'm going to come back I gotta come back with that Samantha style, I gotta push it. And we did."

Fans might be in for a long wait for Season 3 of "AJLT," given the dual writers' and actors' strikes. When the show is back, Samantha Jones will no doubt still be part of the show, "texting and talking," even if Cattrall has moved on once and for all.
