Watch: Nothing 'Delicate' About 'AHS' Trailer with Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

True to form, the trailer to "American Horror Story: Delicate" offers a jolt or two in what looks like an intense updating of a Roman Polanski classic. The show premieres on FX on September 20th at 10pm.

"The season, which comes from showrunner Halley Feiffer, is described as a feminist update of "Rosemary's Baby" and is based in part on Danielle Valentine's thriller novel "Delicate Condition," which follows a woman who becomes convinced that a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens," reports Deadline.

This marks the first season, Entertainment Weekly notes, that is directly adapted by a book. 'Delicate' stars series veteran Roberts as Anna Alcott, an actress who desperately wants two things: an Oscar and a child. Can she have both? That's the dream, but Kardashian's Siobhan Walsh reminds her: "You have a peculiar penchant for turning dreams into nightmares."

Once pregnant, things don't go easy for Anna. Cara Delevingne plays a nurse disturbed by Anna's ultrasound. Later, Anna and Siobhan see the words "Don't Do It Anna" written on a broken mirror. And when Anna has an outburst at a social event, her husband (Matt Czurchy) says "stop being hysterical."

"The new installment of AHS evokes other pregnancy-centric films of the genre, such as 'Rosemary's Baby' (demonic-looking figures keep a watch over Anna) and 'Dead Ringers' (the medical professionals wear alarming shades of red). In an interview with EW earlier this summer, Valentine listed 'Alien' and 'The Silence of the Lambs' as direct inspirations on her book.

Much of the excitement around this season is the casting of Kardashian in a role specifically written with her in mind, reported the Hollywood Reporter last April.

"Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family," said AHS co-creator Murphy in a statement to THR. "Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done."

THR continued: "Though Kardashian has acted before, this will be her most high-profile effort to date. And A-list stunt casting is not exactly outside of the AHS wheelhouse. The series has been a revolving door of marquee names since tapping Jessica Lange back in season one, famously casting Lady Gaga, whose acting credits were then just her own elaborate music videos, in season five – paving the way for her successful film career."

Also featured in the cast are "AHS" regulars Billie Lourd, Denis O'Hare, Leslie Grossman and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.
