2023 Rewind: Hot Out Weatherman Erick Adame Talks About Naked Photos and Why OnlyFans is Not for Him

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 4 MIN.

This piece is part of EDGE's 2023 Rewind series. We're reaching into our archives and sharing some of our favorite stories from the past year.

In an exclusive interview with The Advocate, hot former Spectrum News NY1 weatherman Erick Adame talked at length in an appearance on The Advocate's Pride Today about the story behind those infamous naked photos, the anxiety he suffered, and why he won't be going on to OnlyFans.

"The 40-year-old weatherman was terminated from his job once naked photos of him surfaced online after he exposed himself to a group on a webcam website," the gay publication recalled of Adame's firing last year.

"Not only did these provocative pictures pop up on blog websites, but an anonymous viewer mailed screenshots of Adame to his former employer and Adame's family including his boyfriend and mother," The Advocate noted.

That wasn't the way in which Adame was caught off guard. He "had performed sexual acts online previously before the session someone captured," the publication explained. Adame himself told Pride Today host Ricky Cornish that he'd expected the webcam session to be "a private space," and that his previous forays – which he said were few in number – had made him "comfortable."

"I thought it was going to be these people in this small bubble that would ever see this or hear this," Adame told Cornish. But the bubble didn't stay small.

"I was recognized," the meteorologist recounted, adding that "someone went to a bunch of blog sites [and shared] the link. In minutes, hundreds of people were watching."

One of those hundreds requested that the weatherman write his name, along with "NY1," on his chest, and he complied – even though, he said, "I knew as I was doing it, that it was a mistake." It wasn't his only one – he also informed those watching of his name and address, as well as what he did for a living, and told his audience, "It'd be hot if my boss saw me. I would love my boss to fuck me on camera."

Then the regret and anxiety started. Adame told The Advocate that after the webcam session, "I cried. I didn't really understand why I did what I did. Sometimes sex is super complicated and you have this immediate regret."

Not so immediate was the fallout: It took months for his employer to discover his online activities, and during those months, "every single day, I was scouring the internet for pictures or videos of what had played out," Adame recounted. "I did everything to get that removed. I had so much anxiety for so long."

His colleagues noticed "a change" in him, he said. "It was tough going into work every day and trying to act like everything is fine."

In a cruel kick aimed at him when he was already down, "an anonymous person sent more graphic photos of Adame to the news station" after Spectrum News NY1 had found out about the webcam session, "which eventually led to Adame's firing."

That, Adame said, was the hardest part. "I loved my job so much. I loved the people that I worked with. They were my work family. I didn't even get to say goodbye to any of them," the weatherman said. "Thankfully, we all met up and they gave me hugs and support."

As previously reported, Adame took responsibility for his choices, but refused to apologize for being either gay or sex-positive, saying, "those are gifts and I have no shame about them."

The sharing of the intimate images prompted a police investigation into the possibility that Adame had been a victim of revenge porn.

The weatherman is working, for the moment, in the hospitality sector. But he's also got his own app for weather, which he announced in a tweet.

Once a weatherman, always a weatherman – though when it comes to a new broadcast gig, Adame has yet to make it rain. He told Cornish that "there are words you don't want to use in an interview. Like, 'sex,' 'scandal,' 'leaked,' 'images.' I think those words together, those really uncomfortable things to [bring] up in an interview."

He's hopeful, though, that it might yet happen, telling the publication, "I've had some really great conversations and they've been in the most surprising places – several stations in the deep South."

"That gives me hope that the right position will come along and someone's going to give me that second chance that I've been asking for," Adame added.

As for the idea of going full steam ahead with a career in adult entertainment – which might have seemed a reasonable, even obvious, option for the sexy forecaster – Adame explained why that was not in the cards for him, even though he's got a sex-positive attitude.

"I think it's no secret that I enjoy sex," he said. "Against my will, everyone knows that now, which is totally fine! They even know my sexual preferences. Yes, I'm a bottom!"

However, Adame added that he didn't think an OnlyFans "would give me the same level of pride that I was getting from doing the weather. I've wanted to be a weatherman since I was 7 years old."
