'Sense8' Actor Brian J. Smith Introduces 'the Love of his Life' Matt Consalvo on IG Stories

Hunky actor Brian J. Smith, best-known for his role of Will Gorski on Netflix's "Sense8," used his Instagram Stories account to thank "the love of his life," Matt Consalvo, from a New York City hospital bed. "Surgery day!" Smith captioned the post. He was having knee surgery.
"The photo showed Brian laying in a hospital bed while his boyfriend Matt Consalvo sat in a chair next to him," reported Just Jared.
"Couldn't have done it without the love of my life – @matt.consalvo," he added. Matt reshared the post and said, "i [love] u @smithespis."
Other roles Smith has played has been Berg in "The Matrix Resurrections," and Lt. Matthew Scott on "Stargate Universe." Consalvo is also an actor, with roles on "Blue Bloods," "Special Ops: Lioness," and "Adam & the Water."
"Sense8" came to Netflix from The Wachowskis ("The Matrix") and J. Michael Straczynski in 2015, and went off the air in 2018 after a second season and 24 episodes. The series followed eight strangers from around the world who discover they are "sensates," human beings who are mentally and emotionally linked.
In 2019 Smith came out as gay in an interview with Attitude. The 41-year-old explained how theater became his refuge while growing up in rural Texas, where there were no queer role models available for him to identify with.
"I was terrified. At school I really couldn't fit in anywhere. I wasn't a jock or a nerd," he told Attitude. "Forget about any LGBTQ union or groups. There was absolutely nothing. I was completely alone. I heard all the names: Pussy, faggot."
He continued: "I could never be who I was. I was constantly having to check myself and make sure I wasn't looking at someone too long or making someone feel uncomfortable. I had to be very, very careful about telling people the truth about myself. It still reverberates. A lot of my work is about that. The things that move me as an actor are those echoes that come up."
He did find refuge on the high school stage. "In front of an audience, I disappeared and became someone else. I had 600 students at school, all of whom probably thought I was an absolute idiot, a nerd."
"On stage, they paid attention to me, and they saw that I had something. And that's when I didn't feel alone."
He found a similar experience of belonging when filming "Sense8," which was one of Netflix's most expensive and heralded series. The outcry after its cancellation led to Netflix producing a follow-up special.
"I remember being so relaxed," Brian continued to Attitude, reflecting on filming with the cast. "I thought, 'Finally, I can just be myself, I don't have to put on airs for any of these people'."
"Smith's recent work includes playing Daniel Lennix on Hulu's 'Class of '09'," reports Pride.com. "The actor is also attached to the upcoming Matthew Fifer horror film 'Treatment' about a troubled gay millennial moving back to his childhood home and finding out that the town has a history of homophobic attacks. In turn, Consalvo is reportedly set to star on Starz's 'Hightown.'"
Among Smith's stage roles was a Tony-nominated turn as the Gentleman Caller in 2014 revival of "The Glass Menagerie" with Cherry Jones and Zachary Quinto.
Best wishes to the couple. Check out pics from both their Instagram accounts:
