Hunky British Activist James Mordaunt Feels His Rights are Regressing Under Tory Leadership (Who Include Twin Sister)
READ TIME: 4 MIN.
A political battle between a pair of British twins is making waves on social media and the press. According to a story in The Standard, the tiff is between Conservative MP Penny Mordaunt and her hunky queer twin brother James.
"Penny is the Member of Parliament for Portsmouth North. She is also the Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council," writes Pink News. "However James, who is gay, and a vocal supporter of trans people, spoke out against his sister's government at this week's PinkNews Awards in London."
At the event, The Standard wrote, Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner "said that the Tories 'pit different groups against each other', which got some agreement in the room. We were sitting near Leader of the House Penny Mordaunt's twin brother James, who said that this is 'the most anti-LGBT government I've seen in my lifetime'. James said this is this is the first time he's ever felt his rights have regressed."
Very little can be gleaned about the siblings' relationship. For her part, Penny keeps mention of her brother on the down low save for praising him on several occasions, and while he has become more vocal in recent months in criticizing the increasingly regressive Tory policies towards the LGBTQ+ community, he hasn't made it personal with his sister, a rising Tory star. And with 45,000 followers on Twitter, his opinions are making their mark.
But the website Big World Tale provides some background: "James Mordaunt, who is the Trade Minister's twin, has previously been very supportive of his sister, with the pair sharing pictures and speaking of their pride in each other."
Said James: "It doesn't matter what your voting record is, you are now very clearly working in a system that makes the lives of LGBTQI+ people drastically worse off... All people in my community want is to live their lives as themselves."
The 48-year old James works as a Virgin Atlantic steward and is an avid bodybuilder.
He began taking aim at the Tories earlier this year following a speech by the co-chair of the Conservative Party Oliver Dowden against "woke warriors," Big World Tale reported. Dowden accused "woke warriors" of erasing history through their actions.
"Speaking to the Heritage Foundation, Mr. Dowden said: 'For them, nothing is sacred... A West confident in its values would not be obsessing over pronouns, or indeed seeking to decolonize mathematics'."
Big World Tale continued: "But Mr Mordaunt took aim, telling his followers: 'I'm done with these people. A white straight cis man saying how dangerous the ideology of woke is and how threatening it is having to use pronouns.
'What the hell do you know about threat, you privileged entitled awful man. Not a shred of compassion for people different to you'.'
"James had been supportive of his twin, sharing pictures of the two at London Pride," The House a year ago. "But in February [2022], following a speech from then party chairman Oliver Dowden criticizing 'woke warriors', he tweeted: 'If you are a member of the Conservative Party, a Conservative MP, part of this homophobic transphobic government, you are complicit'."
The House report continued:(Penny) Mordaunt faced criticism for having told MPs 'trans men are men, trans women are women' at the launch of a consultation on reforming the Gender Recognition Act in 2018, with leaked documents later suggesting she had backed watering down the legal process for transitioning. She was then accused of having changed tack during the leadership contest by claiming that she 'never supported self ID,' and differentiating between legal and biological status. Have her views become confused as she balances family and party? Mordaunt says: 'No. I know what I think about things. Lots of other people are confused about what I think about things, but that's their affair'."
The hunky James added that while he and Penny strongly disagree on many things, the pair are still on good terms. "She's never told me to tone it down. And I have a big mouth!" That said, he's looking forward to backing Labour at the next election.
"He has never criticized his sister on social media and offered praise at an event they attended in 2019," adds Big World Tale.
He wrote: 'Always proud of my amazing sister but watching her and Sadiq Khan open London Pride and walking the march at the very front was just the coolest thing ever.'
"Ms Mordaunt, who has been an advocate of gay rights, has also praised her brother, including when he volunteered to work in a Nightingale Hospital during the pandemic."
