"Mean Girls" is back for a whole new generation with a musical makeover.

Paramount Pictures has finally released the much-anticipated trailer for the upcoming musical movie, and the trailer includes a different spin on the original movie synopsis.

Singer and actor Reneé Rapp is in the role of the infamous queen bee Regina George after playing the role on Broadway. But "this isn't your mother's 'Mean Girls,'" the trailer warns.

Like the original film, new student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) meets Regina and learns the social caste system of their high school. Heron falls for Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), Regina's ex-boyfriend, and bonds with outcasts Janis (Auli'i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey). Then of course a plan is hatched to make Cady the leader of The Plastics.

Tina Fey and Tim Meadows are back in their original roles, as well as other elements from the original film, such as the "Burn Book" and Cady's hilariously scary Halloween costume. However, there is no preview of the characters actually singing.

"I'm surprised the trailer doesn't feature any aspect of this being a musical, since u know, that's the main difference in this version," one person commented via YouTube.

But the year is still young, and there is lots of time for more promo. So who knows what's in store.

Jon Hamm, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps also star in the film. See the trailer below.
