Comedian Marlon Wayans revealed that he has a transgender son in a recent interview, and noted that it meant he, too, went through a transition as a parent.

"In his appearance on 'The Breakfast Club' Friday, the comedian, 51, revealed that his oldest child is transgender," People Magazine reported, adding that the comic plans to address his journey in a new comedy special, to which he might give the title "Rainbow Child."

Wayans was on the show to talk about his newest comedy special, "Good Grief," but the conversation included the origin of "Rainbow Child," which Wayans said he has already performed at an event attended by "world leaders" such as individuals who were "part of the government" and high-ranking military officers who were "five-star generals" because he wanted today's leaders "to think about... how to be inclusive of this next generation."

"'Skittles,' or 'Rainbow Child,' is about my... my daughter," Wayans explained. "I have a daughter that transitioned into a son. My, my daughter Amai is now Kai... and so I talk about the transition," the proud father added, noting that the set is not about "their transition, but my transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete, unconditional love and acceptance."

"And I think there's a lot of parents out there that need that message," Wayans added, before admitting, "It was a very painful situation for me." From that pain, however, came more than a new parental perspective; Wayans also discovered comedy gold. "But man, it's one of the best, funniest hours I probably could ever image," he said.

One of the show's hosts noted that Wayans doesn't take much seriously, and the comic conceded the point. "I always joke," Wayans said, adding that he told his child, "you're transitioning into your brother, you look just like him, I can't tell the difference, I swear to God!"

Wayans went on to boast that his son Kai is "brilliant, the most well-read, the smartest Wayans – the smartest, hands down!"

Though he hasn't yet mastered pronouns yet, Wayans said, "They see me trying and they're like, 'I'm happy.'"

Among his efforts: an Instagram post celebrating National Sons Day with photos of Kai as well as younger son Shawn when they were children.

"I can't believe y'all actually smiled like this for class pictures...The fuck?!" Wayans captioned the images. "I told you it would come back to haunt y'all asses," he wrote.

Wayans spoke of how his wish for his children to be "free" surpassed everything else.

"I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves," he explained. "The more you know yourself, the more you can govern yourself; the more you live your truth, the happier your existence," he said. "If they can't get that in the household with their father and their mother, how the fuck do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence?"

But, it seems, they are doing just fine on that score.

"I'm just so proud of them being them," Wayans said. "But that don't mean that they ain't got jokes" to look forward to from their proud dad.
