Why Did Andy Cohen Ask Bowen Yang If He Was to Be a 'Pass-Around Power Bottom' on NYE?

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

What could be 2024's first queer viral meme came courtesy of Andy Cohen when he asked Bowen Yang if he was going to be "a pass-around power bottom" during his CNN's NYE coverage. Yang along with his "Las Culturistas" podcast co-host Matt Rogers spoke to a slightly tanked Cohen and the bewildered Anderson Cooper about their plans for later in the evening.

Just prior to that moment Cohen asked just where in New York City are "you two queens" going to this evening, to which Rogers replied: "Barracuda. Ass up."

The pairing of the four gay men joking about power bottoming at a NYC club isn't the usual CNN banter, and made for one of the queerest visual ever seen on the network Or as @johnvoelcker tweeted:

Clearly the odd-man-out in the conversation was Cooper, who acted like he had no idea what a "pass around power bottom" is. He even acknowledged he felt "straight" being with Rogers, Bowen and Cohen, which led @AnjaliVBhatt to tweet:

A contributing factor to the conversation becoming so raunchy was likely due to the fact that CNN rescinded its drinking policy for the two hosts. It was put in place for 2023's event after the 2022 became pretty messy with Cohen insulting rival host Ryan Seacrest 's ABC coverage, as well as behaving like a friend that should be put in an Uber after having too many shots and not hosting a national television broadcast.

But substituting juice for alcohol shots made less year's broadcast less fun for many, including Cohen,
who lobbied for the return of alcohol. He got his wish:

"Does daddy get his juice?" Cohen asked eagerly, to which Cooper responded: "Can daddy get his juice responsibly?"

And it wasn't long before Seacrest was dropped in the conversation. "On Sunday's broadcast, fans were shocked when Ryan was brought up yet again as Andy revealed where he stands with the Idol host," writes The Sun.

"Just want to point out, I made a big effort. We waved at Seacrest, he saw us waving at him, so he cannot go around saying that I dissed him. He can't go around talking about us," Cohen insisted.

Anderson laughed and said: "Don't start. Don't even mention."

But Andy continued: "I'm not starting. I'm just keeping it real clean. We have waved, connection has been made, all good."

But Cooper still felt he need to tell his "shady" friend to stop "stirring the pot" as he complimented Ryan's dapper tux.

With Tequila shots downed every hour, the conversation became more personal as the hours went on. While interviewing Neil Patrick Harris, Cohen asked "have you ever hooked up with a fan?"

Cohen took a shot and responded: ""If they weren't a fan, they wouldn't get involved with you."

Harris then dropped a tantalizing comment about Cohen. "If they weren't before, then they were after. You know what I'm talking about, Andy Cohen!"

It brought on many of the giggle fits that Cooper had throughout the evening.
