In a few weeks HBO subscribers will be able to delve behind the scenes of the Lil Nas X "Long Live Montero" concert tour. A documentary film that was shot on the tour, "Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero," premieres Jan. 27 on the cable channel, and will also be available on Max.

Billboard described the doc as "a diaristic look at the rapper's life over 60 days in 2022-2023 amid his most recent global tour," and noted that the film's small-screen debut follows "its debut last year at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)," where the doc got several screenings.

The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the story, detailed that in the course of the doc, "Lil Nas X discusses his career and his place in the pop world as a Black and queer performer."

The news comes even as the "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" singer gears up for the release of his sophomore album. As previously reported, Nas X recently announced the advent of his "Christian era" as a recording artist, and launched a new website to go with it.

In comments typical of his sense of humor, Nas X noted that "making christian music does not mean i can't suck d-k no more," and declared, "i am allowed to get on my knees for multiple reasons."

Following that announcement, Nas X took to Instagram to tease his upcoming album with a stylishly minimal image that featured him in angel garb, posed against a gray background and clutching a machine gun. In the caption, Nas X wrote: "i know it's been 2 years but....yall ready for a show?"

Billboard recalled that Nas X promised he was about to pull off "the greatest comeback ever," and noted that a new song (title as yet unknown) is expected from the rapper "next week."

The Hollywood Reporter detailed that in addition to "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)," Nas X has dominated the charts with a string of other hits – "'That's What I Want,' 'Industry Baby' with Jack Harlow, 'Panini' and 'Old Town Road' with Billy Ray Cyrus, which spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is the longest-running No. 1 song of all-time."

"He won two Grammys for the song," THR added, "including best pop duo/group performance and best music video."

Directorial duties on the concert tour doc were undertaken "by Zac Manuel and Carlos López Estrada, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker whose credits include 'Blindspotting,' 'Summertime' and 'Raya and the Last Dragon,'" THR said, adding that Manuel "has also directed music videos for Billie Eilish, Katy Perry and Carly Rae Jepsen."

"Manuel's cinematography and directing credits include 'Alone,' 'Buckjumping,' 'America,' 'Time,' 'Nonstop,' 'This Body' and 'The Cut,'" the publication added.
