A musical based on the post-apocalyptic gay couple played by Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett on HBO's "The Last of Us" – It's just a joking suggestion, but could the popular same-sex pair somehow make a return? Offerman seemed to suggest it's a possibility, noting that ideas have been aired for just such a reunion.
Offerman collected his first Emmy this past weekend for his guest star turn last season as one half of a post-apocalyptic gay couple on the popular drama. The flashback episode detailed how Bill and Frank met after the fall of civilization and became a long-term couple, surviving and thriving despite all odds. The episode created a sensation and was a massive success with fans and critics alike.
Offerman detailed some possibilities for how the pair might find their way back to the screen.
Deadline reported that when the actor was asked backstage about the prospects for the popular characters returning to the show despite having been killed off at the end of their one-shot flashback episode, Offerman indicated that there was no shortage of ideas for how that might happen.
"It certainly has been pitched," Offerman said. "I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other."
Then, offering a more comic possibility, the actor added, "It could be a musical."
"We're not short on ideas," Offerman added. "We'll just we'll see" if series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann "come up with" something that allows him and Murray Bartlett to come back to the universe of "The Last of Us."
