The New 'Mean Girls' Regina George Is a Lesbian?

There is something different about the updated Regina George in the upcoming "Mean Girls" musical, based off of the Broadway show, stage and screen star Reneé Rapp has some thoughts on what it is.

As reported by The Times, Rapp commented on a fan theory surrounding her character's sexuality as the Queen Bee of the Plastics.

Rapp reportedly agrees that Regina George doesn't seem to show any interest in the men she dates.

"No, she doesn't. She just uses them as a little pawn which is kind of what I've done with the men that I've dated in the past when I was dating men," said Rapp.

For Rapp, it's just a matter of being herself, a queer-identifying woman.

"I'm gay," she said. "I'm not out here playing her as a straight girl."

Having starred in "Sex Lives of College Girls," Rapp is also known for her role as Regina George in the Broadway musical of "Mean Girls." So it's been a cyclical journey for Rapp, and the new film is very much an update on the original to fit the times.

"There are absolutely things in the script that I think Tina would be one of the first people to tell you, 'Oh, yeah, there's no way I would say that now,'" Rapp said, "which probably means we shouldn't have said it historically."

Look for the musical "Mean Girls" in theaters Friday, Jan. 19.
