Watch: Sophie Ellis Bextor Sings 'Saltburn' Hit on the Tonight Show

Last night, British superstar Sophie Ellis-Bextor performed for the very first time on US late night television, delivering a dazzling and euphoric live rendition of "Murder on the Dancefloor" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, reported a release from Republic Records Media. Backed by The Roots and a three piece string section, Ellis-Bextor brought her 2001 global smash hit to life in The Tonight Show studio, erupting in a disco dance party amongst fans and Jimmy Fallon himself.
It was also announced that Sophie will be returning to the US in June for her first-ever New York headline show at Webster Hall on June 6th. What is prompting the song's return to the pop charts and dance floors is its use in the international hit, Emerald Fennell's "Saltburn." At the end of the film. Barry Keoghan dances to the song in the nude in a long tracking shot in a tour of the mansion that shares the film's title. In just a few short weeks the song has seen a huge resurgence across the world, resulting in global charting success. It has amassed over 140 million streams so far in 2024 (500 million streams to date), returning to the Official UK Singles Chart at #2, and rising up the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (#51) and Billboard Global 200 Chart (#10 peak). It is also the most-added song at US Top 40 & Hot AC Radio this week, sitting in the Top 20 and Top 30, respectively. "Murder on the Dancefloor" previously peaked at #1 on the Spotify Viral 100 Chart and climbed to Top 40 on the US Spotify Top 200. It also hit #1 on the iTunes Dance Chart, Top 10 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart, and Top 10 on the US Shazam Chart.
This weekend, Sophie will perform the track at the 2024 BAFTA Awards. Ignored by the Oscars,"Saltburn" received five BAFTA nominations, (Keoghan for Best Actor, Jacob Elordi for Supporting Actor, Rosamund Pike for Supporting Actress, Anthony Willis for Best Musical Score, and the film itself for Best British Film).
"Murder on the Dancefloor" became a Top 10 hit worldwide on release 22 years ago, charting at #2 in the UK and within the Top 3 in Australia, New Zealand, and four European countries. Sophie previously announced she will be releasing "Murder on the Dancefloor" on 7" vinyl for the first time as a limited edition red 7", and will also release a limited-edition red CD single. Both are available to pre-order at this linkand will be released on February 16th through Polydor/Casablanca.
She also recently shared a 7-track Murder on the Dancefloor EP, featuring "Murder on the Dancefloor" alongside the original B-Side "Never Let Me Down," the Extended Album Version, and remixes from Jewels & Stone, Danny D, Hq and Twin Murder. All tracks were originally released in 2001, but the majority are brand new to streaming services.
