EDGE Interview: With 'Road House' Remake, Lukas Gage Kicks His Career Into High Gear
Matthew Creith READ TIME: 7 MIN.
EDGE: On portraying gay characters in the past and near future:
Lukas Gage: I have "Companion" coming out, a New Line film where I'm also a gay character. "Dead Boy Detectives," he's fluid. In "Smile" he's not. I mean, I just feel like everyone should be able to play everything on the spectrum. I think it's important to show representation of everything along the LGBTQAI spectrum and that we we just get to see more of these roles and more of these representations. Also, not the same clichés of these roles in every film that they can be portrayed in many different aspects in many different genres. They can be a protagonist, they can be an antagonist, they can be a love interest, they can do it all. I think it's important to show it all.
EDGE: On 1980s fashion choices and what other movie from the era he'd like remade similar to "Road House":
Lukas Gage: I want to bring back the big crazy hair. I just think volume is everything and it's hot. I kind of honestly think clothing wise I'm really leaning towards the '90s style a little bit more than the '80s sometimes. Some of the '80s [seems] a little bit questionable. A movie I really love, I can't remember if it's 1989 or 1990, is "Mermaids" with Cher. Yeah, we could bring that back. But I think Cher needs to play that role. Still, somehow I don't know. I just love Cher. We can't lose Cher!
