Watch: Troye Sivan Opens Up about Being the Gap's Frontman

It's not unusual for Australian pop sensation Troye Sivan to be naked in his work, and he's been seen on stage in designer labels. But that's all for show, he says – the real Troye is much more everyday.

And that, Sivan told GQ Magazine in a recent exclusive interview and photo shoot, is what makes him comfortable in his starring role in the Gap's new campaign.

"It's weird maybe because of my job," Sivan mused in the interview, "but I actually don't really like being the center of attention outside of my work," adding: "I'm okay to just be in my favorite pair of jeans and a T-shirt – that's my every day."

Going on to say that "it might be an Australian thing," the "Rush" singer added that when he's not selling out concert venues he "want[s] to blend in."

"When I'm onstage, it's the complete opposite," Sivan acknowledged, "and I feel totally comfortable because it feels warranted in that moment."

"But in my everyday life," he clarified, it's a very different matter: "There's no fuss, ever."

"It's fitting, then, that as Sivan's hot and horny alter ego takes a break from touring – before revving up again for the feverishly anticipated Sweat Tour, his co-headlining jaunt with Charli XCX – his more introverted, laid-back self takes center stage in the new Gap spot," the men's fashion magazine noted.

In the dynamically dance-filled new spot, GQ detailed, "Sivan, dressed in a relaxed white tee and baggy jeans, gets down to Thundercat's 'Funny Thing' as the dance troupe CDK Company envelops him in their groove."

Added the fashion mag: "And there's plenty of Sivan's vibey, sensual appeal in 'Get Loose': The campaign was choreographed by Sergio Reis, the mastermind behind the instantly viral moves from Sivan's 'Rush' and 'Got Me Started' music videos" – videos that sported barely-clad and even naked looks for the pop star, including a poolside shot in which Sivan wore nothing but, curiously, a ring that resembled a wedding band.

It's more than simply a meeting of mega-star with mall-wear giant, Sivan suggested, revealing a longtime personal affinity for the label.

"I had this Gap hoodie that I wore for a really, really, really long time," Sivan revealed to GQ. "There's something about just having a very special hoodie."

"Gap definitely holds, I think, a special place in everyone's psyche and heart, and I feel like everyone has, at some point, had some relationship with the brand," he said.

Tying Sivan's partnership with the fashion brand to his singing career, GQ pointed out that "Next month, Sivan and Charli xcx hit the road for what promises to be the pop event of the year."

"And if their recent surprise duet at Sivan's London concert is anything to go by," GQ teased, "Sweat Tour attendees should prepare for the 'Rush'-iest, brat-iest, most energetic crowd of their concert-going lives."
