Secret Hookups, Secret Breakup: Ben Platt Spills the Tea about Early Days with Noah Galvin

Ben Platt revealed some juicy tidbits about the early days of his relationship with fiancé Noah Galvin, including stairwell make-out sessions and the time he broke things off with the man to whom he would later get engaged, People Magazine reported.
The 30-year-old "Dear Evan Hansen" star told his secrets to gay "Modern Family" alum Jesse Tyler Ferguson on Ferguson's podcast, "Dinner's On Me." The show noted that Platt also spoke about "the queer Americana" in his new album, "Honeymind," which Platt was there to discuss.
But the honey wasn't all in his mind, Platt revealed, telling Ferguson that he and Galvin were "hooking up" during a theatrical gig. "We would go to the stairwell during break and make out in the stairwell," Platt said of romantic interludes that took place between himself and Galvin, also 30, when the two of them were both "workshopping the musical Alice by Heart in 2019," People Mag detailed.
But then came the day when Platt "panicked" over their sub rosa love affair, prompting him to send Galvin an epic text message.
"I sent him a dissertation, and it was like, 'Oh, feel like we're gonna be friends for our whole lives,' and like, 'I'm, I'm worried if we jump into something, it's gonna ruin our chance to be friends,'" Platt recalled.
"Basically, now I can tell in hindsight, like, [I] met someone who, like, actually we saw each other and it freaked me out," People quoted Platt as saying.
Galvin's reaction to being put into the "friend" box was predictable: People wrote that the actor – who, famously, also portrayed Evan Hansen in the Broadway musical – "was like, 'I hate you.'"
The estrangement didn't last.
"They eventually became friends for a while and would occasionally run into one another at events," the magazine summarized.
Some time later, the flame of romance rekindled, and the rest is sweet history. "After two years of dating, they got engaged in November 2022, and in May 2023, Platt revealed that Galvin 'proposed back,'" People recalled.
Platt – who has three studio albums to his credit – spoke about how he wants their impending wedding to be an occasion with good music.
"We're going to have a band at one point and a DJ at a different point," the singer and actor told Ferguson.
Platt wants the guests to get their groove on. "For me," he said, "the only real judge of how the vibe is how many people are on the dance floor."
