The Internet (and Gay Twitter) has a Lot of Thoughts on Jacob Elordi's New Beard

Those who didn't approve of this dramatic change were very descriptive with their proclaimed hate. One fan called this look "prehistoric," another saying he "looks like he would die in a movie about climbing Mount Everest," both of which are, frankly, A+ visionary.

Elordi made his mark on us as toxic teen Nate in "Euphoria," though his star first began its rise years earlier, gaining a very different demographic of fans in the Netflix "Kissing Booth" films. With that in mind, we can't help but wonder if this was a strategic move from Elordi's team to indicate which fanbase he's focused on appealing to for his future projects.

The internet has many of these theories: Was this new look simply a result of the Australian participating in No Shave November? Is he transforming his look in preparation to begin filming his next role? Is this beard how they'll age him in the time-jump for the on-again-off-again next season of "Euphoria?" Was this a publicist-driven shock move to get fresh buzz about the tall thespian? Or is it just the thing every 20-something does when they have a long enough period off from work that they can grow out their hair?

Much of the response has been about the beard itself, and also about whether there are other men out there who would look hotter if they didn't have a beard.

It is as though, for a certain group, the math of face+beard=hot (which has been as real and true as the rules of gravity to them) has suddenly been disproved on a major scale and everything they once knew no longer makes sense. It's wild that a man can look like THIS and there are people in the world who are unsure of his attractiveness. But that's the internet for ya!

Whatever the inspiration for this new look, only time – and hopefully a soon-to-go-viral explanation clip – will tell. Or, perhaps the lack of explanation is the explanation. We couldn't forget his reply when asked to comment on the trend of men following in his footsteps and carrying books in their pockets: "I think people need to get out more, maybe."
