Grindr Unwraps 2024's Sexiest Surprises

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 4 MIN.

Like Santa Claus, Grindr knows who's naughty... and who's naughtier. The popular hookup app revealed who's doing what to whom and where all across the globe with its latest annual "Unwrapped."

Among the salute-worthy results: The year's biggest "gay gasp" was the way a French pole vaulter's pole spoiled his Olympic hopes; South Korea turned out to be the country with the most open relationships; Charli XCX was our "Mother of the Year"; and the search term used more frequently than any other was "Hung."

"Babes, the spreadsheets are in, the twink we keep locked in IT has emerged, and the data he's shown us is hornier than ever," Grindr announced on its blog.

"This year's verdict: y'all have been busy," the blog post went on to say. "In 2024, you didn't just log on – you went feral. 130 billion chats, 10 billion taps, and 2 billion private albums. That's not flirting, that's foreplay on a global scale.

"Somewhere, a data server is fanning itself," the blog post quipped. "And us? We're clapping. With one hand. The other... well, let's just say your energy is contagious."

The full results for the year's metrics show that South Africa topped the bottoms list, while Jordan was top dog for tops and Finland took the gold for vers.

In other results, Pedro Pascal won the consensus as "Hottest Man of the Year," while our Number One Babygirl was Troye Sivan. Thirsty photos abounded, with more than two billion albums up for perusal, though when it came to swapping individual pics – nudes, natch – Americans were more eager than anybody else. (South Africa, not so much; that country ranked last in the "swapping nudes" department.)

Gays on the move roamed more in New York City than anyplace else, the data showed, and while they were at it they promoted themselves as "discreet" more than any other tag.

The U.S. outstripped everyone else with its inventory of Daddies, but it was the Netherlands that boasted the biggest load of twinks. The United Kingdom kept cool and carried on with the lion's share of the world's Fem Tops, while across the channel France was stocked with the most hung bottoms (which might cast some light on the complicated relations between the two countries over the centuries). Greece, meanwhile, had a whole lot of bears going on... more than anywhere else, in fact. If you happened to be in the market for a side, your best bet was to be in Singapore.

Digging deeper, the app's users signaled their interest with nine-and-a-half billion taps, and Italy took first prize for number of "Feet" tags. Speaking of tags: Of all the tags Grindr habitués used, the most frequent were "I'm looking for a man in finance," "Trust fund," "6'5'" and "Blue eyes."
