Holliday in Philly: Rockies romp 12-0

Matt Holliday lined into a triple play, then hit a three-run homer his next time up Wednesday night to start the Colorado Rockies on a 12-0 romp over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Rockies posted the most-lopsided road shutout in team history - they won 11-0 at San Diego on Sept. 13, 2000. Holliday, who homered twice Tuesday night against the Phillies, connected for the fourth straight game.

Four Colorado pitchers combined on a four-hitter against the league's top-scoring team. Ryan Howard struck out with the bases loaded in the first, and reliever Mark Redman (1-4) later pitched five innings.

The result coupled with the Dodgers' 6-1 win over San Diego left Colorado, Philadelphia and Los Angeles 2 1/2 games behind the Padres in the NL wild-card race.

The injury-depleted Phillies sustained another loss when rookie starter Kyle Kendrick (8-4) left in the fourth inning with a bruised knee after getting hit by Garrett Atkins' line drive. X-rays were negative and Kendrick was day-to-day.

Not even turning their second triple play of the season could help the struggling Phillies, who are 4-7 since winning six straight to pull within two games of the East-leading New York Mets.

Cory Sullivan led off the game with a single and Troy Tulowitzki bunted for a single, putting Kendrick in an early jam.

Holliday followed with a hard shot that third baseman Greg Dobbs caught inches above the ground. Dobbs threw to second baseman Chase Utley for the second out, and Utley tagged Tulowitzki.

The Phillies also turned a triple play at Cincinnati on April 21.

Holliday hit his 30th home run in the third for a 3-0 lead. He leads the NL with 119 RBIs.

It completely unraveled for the Phillies after Atkins led off the fourth with a shot off Kendrick's knee. Kendrick fell to the ground, the ball went high in the air and landed for an infield single.

Kendrick got up, tried to walk it off and went back down, grimacing in pain. He limped off the field and was replaced by John Ennis.

Omar Quintanilla hit an RBI single and Tulowitzki had a two-run single. Todd Helton added a three-run double off Clay Condrey for a 9-0 lead.

Sullivan hit a solo homer off Francisco Rosario in the sixth, prompting a group of fans to get up, chant "E-A-G-L-E-S," and leave the ballpark.

Redman earned his first win in his third appearance with the Rockies. The left-hander allowed two hits and struck out four.

Redman pitched in six games with Atlanta this season. He also spent time in the minors with Texas and Toronto.

Rockies starter Denny Bautista pitched two scoreless innings in his first start of the season after appearing as a reliever in 58 games between Triple-A and the majors. He threw 41 pitches, one more than he was scheduled to make.

Bautista escaped a big jam after the Phillies loaded the bases with no outs in the first. Howard struck out swinging at a 3-2 pitch, Aaron Rowand fouled out and Dobbs, after getting ahead 3-0 in the count, eventually flied out.

Notes:@ Phillies ace Cole Hamels felt fine after a bullpen session and hopes to start at St. Louis on Tuesday. The All-Star lefty has been sidelined since Aug. 22 with an elbow strain. ... The Phillies turned three triple plays in 1964 and two in 1925. ... Bautista was the 12th different starting pitcher used by the Rockies this season. ... Colorado C Yorvit Torrealba was ejected in the second inning after getting called out on strikes by plate umpire Bill Welke.
