MassEquality added five new members to its board of directors this month, bringing the total number of board members up to 15. Last month the board began a recruitment effort to bring total board membership up to 18 and to increase the board's diversity. In a statement MassEquality board president David Wilson said the new members help bring the organization closer to that goal.

"We've brought on five very qualified individuals to serve on the MassEquality Board - energetic leaders, from diverse backgrounds, well-connected in the LGBT community as well as in the greater business and philanthropic communities, and all enthusiastic supporters of our work to promote full equality for the LGBT community," wrote Wilson. "I'm looking forward to working with each of them."

The new members include Douglas Brooks, vice president for health services at Justice Resource Institute; Peter Dziedzic, Jr., an attorney in the Boston office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP; Ed Gaffney, a novelist, film producer and former MassEquality field volunteer; Sara Whitman, a philanthropist and writer at the Huffington Post; and Stan Zanarotti, co-founder of the software company Dimensional Insight.
