Save the last dyke

Michael Wood READ TIME: 1 MIN.

It still seems hard to believe, but tonight is the last Dyke Night for the foreseeable future. With Toast converting into a full time restaurant, the popular women's night will be homeless for the first time in 3 years - sadly, that's quite a long tenure for a lesbian night in the Boston area. Hopefully this will only be a brief hiatus, but Dyke Night is going out in style with a monster bash tonight.

As Dyke Night's Kristen Porter told Bay Windows editor Laura Kiritsy in an interview two weeks ago, "it's not only possible to have a very successful long-term relationship for a lesbian night at a venue but also that it's possible to have a good end to that relationship that provides closure to the community." (Kiritsy replied, "Ah, spoken like a true lesbian.")

Tonight's dance features performances from Dyke Night staff and local musician Sheri Lynne, a hottest butch and hottest femme contest, and lots of giveaways. But what next? Porter says she's looking forward to catching up on her beauty rest, but adds that she's also looking for "lesbians of means wanting to invest in a lesbian venue."

For news of Sugar Mamas and future events, keep your eyes on www.dykenight.com - and get your ass to Toast Lounge, 70 Union Square, Somerville by 8 p.m. to catch the show. Dancing starts at 10 p.m. 21+, $8.
