MassEquality Campaign Director is no more

After widening its mission beyond marriage equality and becoming a permanent multi-issue LGBT advocacy group last fall, the MassEquality board on July 9 took another step to reflect the organization's new direction, changing Marc Solomon's job title from campaign director to executive director.

"The title change to executive director is an important step in MassEquality's transition from a campaign-based coalition to a permanent, independent non-profit organization," said board chair David Wilson in a press release.

Solomon succeeded MassEquality's first campaign director, Marty Rouse, in January 2006, and he led the organization in its successful campaign against a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, culminating in the defeat of the amendment in June 2007. With marriage equality secure in Massachusetts the MassEquality board voted to transform MassEquality into a permanent organization working on a range of issues including transgender rights, LGBT youth issues, LGBT elder issues, and HIV/AIDS, as well as working to secure marriage equality throughout New England.

"We're a permanent organization now, with long-term plans to continue to protect and promote marriage equality here and throughout New England and advocate for full equality for LGBT people in our state," said Solomon in a press release.
