From the dance floor to the dunes

Normally Daniel Heller and Josh Gerber organize an LGBT takeover of a different straight bar the first Friday of every month, but on Aug. 3 they'll take the party outside, teaming up with the South Shore LGBT social club The Hull Word to stage an invasion of Nantasket Beach.

Nantasket may not be as much of a gay draw as P'town's Herring Cove-- and there likely won't be as many topless lesbians and bottomless men-- but Heller said Guerrilla Queer Bar fans had long been pushing for a beach takeover on the group's Facebook page, and Heller and Gerber decided to try something new.

"We're nearing our one-year mark, and Josh and I have been thinking a little bit more globally about what we could do," said Heller.

The Guerrilla Queer Bar crowd will congregate at the end of the beach bordered by the Ocean Club, a restaurant and bar that will serve as the event's home base. Heller said members of the Hull Word have contacted other local restaurants and bars near the beach and told them to expect a large and gay crowd that day.

Heller expects the event will draw at least 300 LGBT folks to the beach, but he said based on the response to the event on Facebook he estimates the crowd could get as large as 600 to 800 people.

The official takeover begins at 10 a.m. It's sure to make waves.
