'Anarcho-Transsexual' Geek Behind Virus?

A software virus that propagated through instant messaging was traced back to an account registered to a software developer and self-described "Anarcho-Transexual [sic] Afro-Chicano American Feminist Studies Major."

The worm was noticed on Feb. 24, when Google Talk users were messaged to click onto a site called ViddyHo.com, where they were then directed to get onto their accounts with Google Talk.

From there, the worm spread to everyone on the contact lists of the users, said a Feb. 25 article at Harvard student newspaper The Crimson.

The Crimson reported that Cam-Hoan Ton-That is the individual behind ViddyHo.com, though that does not necessarily mean that Ton-That was the individual who created and deployed the worm.

A lawyer for Ton-That, Andre Gharakhanian, said that as far as he knew Ton-That was not the individual responsible for the worm, according to the article.

Gossip site Valleywag reported in a Feb. 25 article that Ton-That's Twitter profile declared Ton-That to be an "Anarcho-Transexual Afro-Chicano American Feminist Studies Major."

Postings at Ton-That's Twitter account refer to hanging out at a popular San Francisco coffee house called Sugarlump and lists a resume of applications Ton-That designed which are used at social networking site Facebook and for the new iPhone.

The Valleywag article said that Ton-That has neither claimed responsibility for the worm nor protested innocence.

The Valleywag article described Ton-That as a "follower," saying, "Everything about Ton-That's life and work is a screaming stereotype of San Francisco's Web crowd--a bunch of supposed individualists who'd be paralyzed with fear by the idea that they're not living in the right neighborhood, working in the right office, and chasing the right technological trend."

Added the article, "If he is indeed the perpetrator of the worm, it may make him hated.

"But it would be the first truly original thing he's done."
