Colo. GOP: Conversion Therapy Can Get the Devil Out

Demonic spirits are pretty active according to retired military chaplain turned hate group leader turned Republican Colorado state representative Gordon Klingenschmitt. Not only are they responsible for for controlling gay people, they also cooperate with judges who reject appeals to overturn bans on conversion therapy.

According to Right Wing Watch, on a recent edition of his "Pray in Jesus Name" program, Klingenschmitt condemned Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey and other Garden State lawmakers for banning "ex-gay" conversion therapy for minors.

Referring to gays as "addicts," Klingenschmitt said, "there is a demonic spirit ... inside of the addict that is controlling the voluntary choices, or at least has contracted with them and is manifesting through them in this sinful addiction."

The only remedy according to Klingenschmitt is to "get the Devil out and to get the Holy Spirit in." He further claims that conversion therapists act as a conduit for the Holy Spirit to "cure the homosexual of their sinful addiction."

The Republican Colorado state representative had strong words for judges who refuse to hear appeals to bans on reparative therapy, claiming they too are in cahoots with the devil's minions.

"What the lower court judges are doing is they are cooperating with that demonic spirit inside the homosexual addict," he said, adding, "those judges are now reinforcing the sin and saying you cannot be delivered, you cannot be cured, you cannot be healed"

Gays aren't the only ones inhabited by demonic spirits according to Klingenschmitt. In 2015, Right Wing Watch reported the retired chaplain declared that people who smoke pot are inviting "a demonic spirit of drunkenness" to take control of them.

"When you begin hallucinating, I'm told, and you begin seeing these images," he said. "You're having apparitions and you are seeing and interacting with and welcoming to rule your heart a demonic spirit of drunkenness. That's not recreational. It's evil."

Klingenschmitt's Pray in Jesus Name Project is listed with the Southern Poverty Law Center as an active anti-gay hate group.

In 2014, he ran for the state legislature and captured nearly 70 percent of the vote in the heavily Republican District located in El Paso County, on the eastern side of Colorado Springs.
