Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Saying whether you should own a Blu-ray copy of one "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" - one of the most eagerly awaited motion pictures of all time, not to mention one of the most popular - seems a bit like a no-brainer. If you love "Star Wars" and you enjoyed J.J. Abrams continuation of the Skywalker Saga, then why not? It's a fun, repeatable, highly entertaining film that not only looks and sounds great on Blu-ray, but includes some fascinating and informative special features. Although, some fans will have some qualms about what is (and is not) included on the disc, including the fact that a 3D version is not yet available.

There are 9 Special Features on the Bonus Disc, the most anticipated being the Deleted Scenes. The problem here is that the scenes are so inconsequential and last no more than 4-5 minutes total. The other really odd thing is that when Disney released the teaser announcing the Deleted Scenes, it includes a deleted scene that's not even on the disc. In the teaser we see Han, Finn, and Maz trapped in the underground chambers of her watering hole as stormtroopers attack. Weirdly, this scene is not found on the disc however there is word it will be included in the digital download when it is released. (There should be no reason fans have to jump through hoops for this stuff.)

The rest of the Special Features are all behind the scenes and fairly interesting, but the best is "Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey" - a 70-minute four-part documentary taking fans from the announcement of Lucas film's sale to Disney, all the way to wrapping the shoot of the film. It's a terrific glimpse inside the making of the film with tons of behind-the-scenes footage and insider tidbits.
