Cher marked her 75th birthday today, May 20. And as an early birthday present for her fans, the icon announced a very special surprise: A forthcoming biopic.

"The as-yet-untitled film will arrive via Universal Pictures. Cher will co-produce alongside Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman – the production duo who helmed the film adaptation of 'Mamma Mia!' (which of course, starred Cher)," Pitchfork detailed.

Cher also took to Twitter to share the exciting news, noting that the screenwriter for the upcoming Universal release is Eric Roth, who won an Oscar for his screenplay of the 1994 film "Forrest Gump" and also co-wrote the 2018 remake of "A Star is Born," starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. (Roth also penned the 1987 thriller "Suspect," which starred Cher and Dennis Quaid.)

The iconic musician's life and expansive career offer plenty of material to work with. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Cher's "decades-long career has spanned music, television, fashion and film. It has included multiple studio albums, a comedy variety show, and a Las Vegas residency, as well as an expansive acting career that included 'Silkwood,' 'Mask,' 'The Witches of Eastwick,' and 'Moonstruck,' the latter of which earned her a best actress Oscar."

The outlet also makes note that Cher's biopic announcement comes amidst "a surge of rock biopics following Elton John's 'Rocketman' and Freddie Mercury's 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' The Bee Gees, Whitney Houston and Elvis are also all getting the feature film treatment."
