Rosie O'Donnell Flubs Hello to Priyanka Chopra...then Bungles Apology

It was a situation that spiraled from bad to worse: Out comedian Rosie O'Donnell made a mistake when introducing herself to Nick Jonas' wife Priyanka Chopra, but then proceeded to really made a hash of her apology when she took to TikTok to explain the "awkward" encounter, Buzzfeed reported.
Relating what happened in a Feb. 20 post, O'Donnell went wrong right off the bat, explaining that she had been at Nobu, a restaurant in Malibu, together with her son, "his girlfriend Theresa and Fran Drescher" and that "Nick Jonas and his wife 'Something' Chopra" had been seated next to her table.
O'Donnell narrated that she had "always assumed" Jonas' wife – whose first name she evidently didn't remember – "was Deepak Chopra's daughter," referencing the celebrity author and alternative medicine advocate.
As Newsweek noted in its coverage of the story, Priyanka Chopra's father was "Dr. Ashok Chopra, who died in 2013."
But O'Donnell's attempts to tell the story and make her apologies only got her in hot water for the way she sidestepped the problem of not recalling Priyanka's name, resorting at one point to calling her "the Chopra wife."
O'Donnell recounted that she greeted the couple with, "Hi Nick Jonas, you were great in Kingdom" and "Hi, I know your dad' " to Chopra, who then responded, "You do? Who's my dad?"
"I said Deepak," O'Donnell continued, "and she said 'no and Chopra is a common name.' I felt so embarrassed. Didn't you think Nick Jonas was married to Deepak Chopra's daughter? Am I the only one who thought that?"
O'Donnell returned to the platform the following morning to correct what she said were comments suggesting that Priyanka had been "rude," and to apologize all over again for not looking up her name.
Saying that Priyanka "wasn't rude; it was just awkward," O'Donnell went on to add, "I'm sure she gets sick of that, I'm sure I'm not the only one."
"According to the comments, a lot of people thought that too, but she's apparently a very well known actress and apparently more famous than people are saying, so I'm sure it felt weird to begin with."
"And anyway Priyanka is her name, Priyanka, I hope I'm pronouncing that right," O'Donnell added. "I just want to apologize to her and anyone who thought that it was really inappropriate of me. Sorry, sometimes I fuck up. I didn't know boo."
