Don't Watch Gay: Florida Man Batters Wife After Catching her Watching Show with 'Homosexual Content'

Don't Watch Gay: A Florida man was arrested last week for battering his wife after he found her watching a program with gay content. "I'm not having that in my house," James Barr, 62, reportedly declared upon hearing a "homosexual comment," according to an arrest report, writes The Smoking Gun.
The local Florida news outlet VillagesNews.com writes: "James Edwin Barr, 62, was arrested on a charge of battery Thursday night at his home in the Village of Pennecamp.
"The Decatur, Ill. native had his hands in the air when he walked out of his home upon the arrival at about 8 p.m. of Sumter County sheriff's deputies. He appeared to be intoxicated. He said he had been in a verbal altercation with a woman while watching television. The nature of Barr's relationship to the woman was redacted from the arrest report."
The arrest report did not identify the show his 62-year-old wife Linda was watching at the time of the incident earlier this month. ("Drag Race," perhaps?) Whatever it was, it contained "a homosexual comment that the defendant did not like."
"Cops allege that Barr- – who showed signs of intoxication – grabbed his wife's arms and 'forcefully' pushed her down into a recliner, where he 'held her down in the chair not letting her get up,' " writes The Smoking Gun.
The police reported the woman attempted to kick Barr to free herself but he "would not let go and let her get up." One officer noted that the woman "had a minor injury of broken skin on her left inner forearm" where she said she had been grabbed and pinned to the recliner.
Barr admitted to the police that he grabbed his wife in their residence at The Villages. He was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge and booked into the Sumter County jail and was freed from custody on July 7 after posting $500 bond.
A registered Republican, he was married to the victim for nearly 40 years. The couple have three children and purchased their home in The Villages in April 2021 for $1.239 million.
"Barr's spouse has subsequently asked that the criminal charge against her husband be dropped and says she will not participate in his prosecution. Linda Barr contends that the pair had been drinking and 'the effect of alcohol impaired' James Barr's judgement and 'he was unaware of his action at the time.," adds the Daily Caller.
