Madonna Pokes Fun at the Pope with Custom Hoodie

Continuing her decades long role as provocateur (especially when it comes to the Catholic Church), Madonna recently took to Instagram to show off her tongue-in-cheek hoodie designed just for her by Seks.

The hoodie features an embroidered image of the Pope clad in a robe with "Madonna" written across his chest. This comes years after the Queen of Pop famously said: "I would like to see the Pope wearing my t-shirt."

According to the New York Post, the hoodie was designed by Abel Cepeda Ljoka and Will Kowall and they acknowledge that their design was inspired by Madonna's iconic quote. They also revealed that the red thread used to create the image of the Pope was inspired by the Kabbalah red string to protect the wearer's energy.

"We are literally the biggest Madonna fans," the pair of designers told Page Six. "We love her so much, and have such a deep appreciation for her art, what she has done, and what she is doing. So there is no greater honor than these moments. Madonna is one of the most iconic icons of all time."

This isn't the first time Madonna has, for lack of a better term, ingratiated herself with Pope Francis. Last year, she tweeted to him: "Hello @Pontifex Francis – I'm a good Catholic. I swear! I mean I don't swear! Its [sic] been a few decades since my last confession. Would it be possible to meet up one day to discuss some important matters? I've been excommunicated 3 times. It doesn't seem fair. Sincerely, Madonna."

Of course, Madonna has long had a complicated relationship with the Catholic church dating back decades. It all started around 1989 with the release of the music video for "Like a Prayer" that showed burning crosses and an erotic depiction of Jesus. In 2006, she performed strapped to a cross wearing a crown of thorns in her "Confessions" tour, and in her 2016 Rebel Heart Tour, she showcased nuns pole dancing on a cross, which the church couldn't have been thrilled about either.

While her Celebration Tour hasn't yet opened, you can bet it's going to be a total feast for the eyes and ears. How far will the Queen go with her visuals this time?
