6 Fabulously Spine-Tingling Queer TV Shows to Stream for Halloween

As the weather cools and Halloween decor starts going up all around us, the mood strikes for a darker, creepier TV offering. "Deadloch"

When big-city detective Dulcie Collins (Kate Box), who moved to her wife's small hometown for a change of pace, is suddenly confronted with a local serial killer killing off abusive men, it sends the community into a dark and deeply entertaining spiral. The local police team is entirely unprepared for crimes, so Eddie (Madeleine Sami), an unhinged mess of a big-city cop, is sent to help Dulcie investigate, creating even more chaos in the already strange crime spree. "Deadloch" unravels small-town secrets, delivers seaside festival shenanigans, and threatens the comfort of Dulcie's long-term lesbian friendships. This Australian show is an incredibly queer, feminist, hilarious but heartfelt take on murder mysteries.

"The Fall of the House of Usher"

Mike Flanagan's latest is "Succession" as a queer, camp, horrific exposé of the pharmaceutical industry and corporate nepo babies –except "The Fall of the House of Usher" sees their Logan Roy, Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood), as the only one left alive, having seen all his heirs murdered one by one in gory, twisted methods inspired by their greed. The show is captivating, at times devastating, and rich on so many levels, including the stunning performances from Carla Gugino, Carl Lumbly, and Willa Fitzgerald.

"Gen V"

This bloody, twisted coming-of-age college spin-off of superhero satire "The Boys" has everything you didn't know you needed: Girls exploding their rapist's dicks; a boy flying up into the sky above his university campus to explode himself to death, guts landing all over his peers; a group of friends consistently getting their memories wiped; an awkward, adorable enemies-to-lovers storyline between a gender-shifting superhero (played by both London Thor and Derek Luh) and their blood-bending new classmate, Marie (Jaz Sinclair). The show confronts horrific medical trials on talented young people, explores teenage struggles with self-harm, and sees the Vaught corporation consistently working to suppress their superhero employees.

"Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire"

The vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) leads this sultry, seductive show, describing his conflicted murderous exploits since meeting his lover and maker Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). As he recounts his life-post-death story to human memoirist Daniel Molloy, in the presence of the mysterious vampire Armand, Louis takes us along into a world filled with drama, intrigue, unreliable narrators, and the two men leaving bodies in their wake. The show is brilliant, not least for the magnetic chemistry between Reid and Anderson, which leans fully into the queerness only hinted at in previous adaptations of Anne Rice's immortal novels.

"Wilderness"

This psychological thriller follows Liv (Jenna Coleman), who discovers her husband, Will (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), has been having an affair. Liv plans a revenge roadtrip to visit gorgeous natural landmarks that double as convenient places to push her husband off a cliff. When they get there, the married couple is surprised to find that the woman Will is having an affair with (played by Ashley Benson) is hiking at the same spot with her boyfriend. Jealousy, manipulation, betrayal, and desire collide as "Wilderness" morphs between will-she-actually-do-it to will-they-won't-they-get-away-with-this, equal parts sexy and suspenseful. While she struggles with her heartache over her husband's secrets, Liv confides in her lesbian best friend and neighbor, briefly indulging in sexual encounters with her.

"Half Bad: The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself"

Caught between two warring clans, Nathan Byrne (Jay Lycurgo) escapes his sheltered upbringing to claim his identity as the son of a notorious dark witch believed to be responsible for a landscape-shifting massacre. Nathan struggles with developing his powers, falling in love, and breaking away from history while discovering that the lore about his father may be a lie. This coming-of-age tale is brutal and beautiful; the violent but charming adventure offering up found family magic as two new friends (played by Nadia Parkes and Emilien Vekemans) offer their help and the trio tries to save their world. Their time together blooms into a genuinely sweet queer polyamorous love story.
